A Q&A with Brandon Electrical/Environmental System Technician
Hello all, I'm back this week with an Electrical/Environmental System Technician on the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Enjoy!
1) What made you want to join the Air Force?
Answer: I joined the Air Force because my best friend joined a few years prior to my visit with the recruiter. I lived with him a few months before I joined and I loved the lifestyle he was living. He went to the gym for free, shooed at the Commissary/Exchange and went to school using a TA to name a few perks. I became interested after seeing how well his first enlistment treated him.
2) What is your favourite moment/experience you've had flying?
Answer: I'm maintenance crew, but I have travelled a few times with aircrew. My favourite experience was coming to RAF Fairford last fall. We had to wait for parts for quite a bit, so I saw the sights. I went to an Arsenal FC match and checked out some of the Donner spots and then went to Germany where I got to check out a holiday festival near Ramstein Air Base. I missed Thanksgiving, but had a great time.
3) What is your worst moment/experience you've had flying?
Answer: My worst experience I had was when I had a jet break for a cargo problem in Norfolk. I actually didn't fly there, I drove with another electrician, but it was one of my least favourite trips because A). I grew up in that area so there was nothing to explore and B). we were very limited on what we could do from that location. I spent quite a few hours working with the fabrication technicians from the Navy to remove a section of the floor so we could make the winch repair. It was exhausting, but the Navy Troops were extremely helpful and we got to launch a helicopter to Korea. It's always rewarding to see the direct impact of our work.
4) What is your favourite plane and why?
Answer: My favourite plane is the C-5 because that's the aircraft I've learned the most on. I also love the mission of the C-5. I've seen some really cool stuff (like the helicopter I was talking about earlier) delivered by the C-5.
5) What plane would you like to fly if you never flew the C-5?
Answer: If I ever flew, I would like to fly A-10s. I deployed with them before and what they accomplished on those missions was incredible.
Well, that's the end of the Q&A with Brandon.
Hope you enjoyed!
Cheers!
