A Q&A With CHI CHI

05/07/2020

Hello! A few weeks back, I had the privilege of talking to retired U-2 pilot, CHI CHI! As usual, I got the chance to ask him some questions about his flying career, here's what he had to say...

1) What made you want to join the Air Force?

Answer: I had always wanted to fly. My father flew the B-47s and B-52s in the Air Force and I just wanted to fly airplanes just as he had.

2) What is your favourite moment/experience you've had flying?

Answer: Anytime I fly, I enjoy it greatly. My first solo (in any airplane), my first high flight, my first T-38 low level, my last sortie in the Air Force, my IOE complete flight at my present airline are all highlights of my flying career.

3) What is your worst moment/experience you've had flying?

Answer: My worst experience was probably being blown off the runway in my U-2 while landing at Osan Air Base, Korea, in 2002.

4) What is your favourite plane and why?

Answer: U-2, no question at all. It's the most unique and special of all the unique and special airplanes I've flown.

5) Did you prefer driving the chase car or flying the jet?

Answer: Though driving the car can be fun, I'd always prefer to fly!

Well, there you go! Hope you all enjoyed reading!

Cheers!
