A Q&A with SMACK
I recently spoke with a U-2 pilot callsign "SMACK." I had the chance to ask him 5 questions, here is his responses...
1) What made you want to join the airforce?
SMACK: I wanted to be a pilot my whole life... I got really interested in military aviation as a kid and that just grew into a desire to join the airforce.
2) What is your favourite moment/experience you've had flying?
SMACK: Doing a low level air drop in Afghanistan in a C-130J. Dropped a bunch of food and water at 300 feet and it crushed an Afghan National Army truck that had driven into the Drop Zone.
3) What is the worst moment/experience you've had flying?
SMACK: Probably when my crew got in trouble for violating Special Use Airspace over the Grand Canyon.
4) What is your favourite plane and why?
SMACK: C-130... cause I loved flying with a different crew and doing a ton of different missions.
5) Did you prefer the chase car or the jet?
SMACK: It depends how I'm feeling that day. Usually the Jet.
Well, I hope you enjoyed reading! It's a real privilege to be able to talk to airforce pilots past and present!!
